Meetup, founded in 2002, originally gained notoriety as the grassroots backbone of the Howard Dean presidential campaign in 2004. As of January 2014, fifteen million+ people have registered on Meetup, and people self-organize over 315,000 Meetups each month. Meetup's investors include eBay, Omidyar Network, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Esther Dyson, Union Square Ventures and others.
